As the country focus on agriculture commercialization, the people of Turubu could not wait but took initial steps into developing their land. Something the Vanilla Industry in Papua New Guinea is struggling for today. Our recent engagement with the Landowner Group (Nungondiwa ILG) in Turubu LLG of Wewak District, East Sepik Province on development and establishment of 300ha vanilla plantation estate with a production capacity of 110 tons per year is progressing smoothly as initial feasibility study and plantation estate establishment plan been done. During the recent visit, Gaulma Agri Services Limited conducted a 2 days feasibility study and 1 day climate smart vanilla production and processing training to the Land owners and farmers in the area. At the discussion ons, we encouraged and empowered the rural farmers to not seek support, rather engage on their own in developing what they propose so that support may find them itself. As progress takes place, land clearing is underway and planting is scheduled for May 2026, with the target for first harvest in late 2027 into 2028. The plantation estate is envisioned to plant all tahitensis variety. Plantation design and processing facilities for the plantation as well as quality control mechanisms are put in place by Gaulma Agri Services Limited who is proposed to manage the plantation estate on behalf of the Nungondiwa ILG. As we thrive to develop our vanilla industry in the country, such initiative is a leap forward which will benefit the country as a whole when it comes to it's full operations. Stay tuned on this page for the progressive update on the development and establishment of Papua New Guinea's first ever Vanilla Plantation Estate. #ruraleconomicdevelopment #betterlivelihoods #vanillaplantationestate #ruraleconomyresilience#climatesmartagriculture
